Jazz at Berlin Philarmonic XI : The Last Call by Philip Catherine and Larry Coryell
New album from Philip Catherine and Larry Coryell published on 19/02/2021.
Recorded live in Berlin in 2017, this is the last live appearance of Larry who passed away a few weeks later. The album starts with four tunes with just guitar duos, Catherine on electric guitar, Coryell with an acoustic instrument. The complicity is impressive, each with his own style. Then comes a crescendo with each time an extra musician. The finale, “On Green Dolphin Street” is played by a quintet comprising trumpeter Paolo Fresu, pianist Jan Lundgren and bassist Lars Danielsson. “creative compatibility, enthusiasm and mutual understanding” at it’s best.
